The International Tourist Guide Day in Germany
Each year on February 21st, the German National Tourist Guide Association (BVGD) organizes a German-wide joint project – the “Weltgästeführertag” or “International Tourist Guide Day” (ITGD). The World Federation of Tourist Guides (WFTGA) has initiated the International Tourist Guide Day in 1990.
In Germany, the BVGD started the project in 1999 and it has since been a success story under the slogan “Get to know Germany free of charge”. On this day, the public is invited to become informed about guiding as a profession and to enjoy special theme tours in their city or region. Since its start, the project has delighted more than 200,000 people in Germany.
2015 is the 30. anniversary of the founding of the World Federation of Tourist Guide Associations (WFTGA). To commemmorate the inauguration day the National Tourist Guide Associations around the world annually celebrate the INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDE DAY. Thus, they promote their area specificity and qualification, their professionalism and humour, their cultural sensitivity and factual commentaries. By visiting unknown places with a specialist, guests will understand better the customs and traditions of the visited site. Why not come along and enjoy this treat?!
